When Stuff Happened
Here are a few of the significant years and happenings in my life I thought I should share.
1973
I Was Born
I'm a Gen Xer and completely identify with the stereotypical characteristics of my generation: (1) Independent, resourceful, individualistic and self-sufficient; (2) I value a healthy work-life balance to contribute while also pursuing personal goals; (3) I am flexible and informal and have a work hard, play hard mentality; (4) I appreciate humor; (5) I value diversity; and (6) I'm reasonably technologically adept (we’re the last generation who knows what life was like without personal computers).
1991
Graduated From High School
I graduated from high school in Houston, Texas. I was a decent student and a 2-year varsity football player with the aspirations, but not the athletic prowess, to play college ball.
1996
Graduated from College
I graduated in 1996 with dual degrees in English Literature and Philosophy/Christianity from Houston Baptist University (now Houston Christian). I went to grad school at Dartmouth for a brief time but wanted to jump into the workforce, applying my talent of taking complex subjects, digesting them and writing about them for a broader audience.
1997
Started My Career
My career is described in detail in my resume and the story of my various roles is shown on this site, so I won't duplicate it here. But this is when it all started at a small offshore decommissioning consultancy where I helped rebrand the company and built proposals and an advertising program I am still proud of.
2002
Got Married
Best wife ever. She keeps my perspective grounded, boosting my confidence when I am down and keeping my ego in check if it gets too big.
2005
Became a Dad
Best son ever. Raising him will be the most important job I'll ever have. I've grown as much as he has since he entered my life. What a journey.
2019
Moved to Austin
After 5 years of trying and being delayed by Hurricane Harvey, we finally made it. We're living our best life in the live music capitol of the world.
2021
Made This Web Site
For the last 27+ years I’ve been plying my trade, expanding my responsibilities from a technical writer and copywriter to proposal writer, marketing manager, to director and senior director of marketing and communications.
I get to help people build meaningful careers and to help leaders create great companies...how lucky am I?
