Burns & McDonnell

Burns & McDonnell is a fantastic place to work. Truly employee-owned (one of the best ESOPs in the nation) with a culture that drives each team member to live up to its internal mantra, Create Amazing.

I was able to build a regional team integrated into a complex, matrixed marcom organization where we led the company in numerous efforts to support our continuous growth. We also helped to maintain the company culture as it shifted from centralized to decentralized. While other groups focus on one or a few marketing and/or communications functions, we did everything within a small team but relied on support from the other teams when required.

Targeted, Omnichannel Communications

My team continuously worked on more effective methods of communicating with our internal and external customers. We were well beyond proposals, ads and events, although we did all of those things, too.

For example, thought leadership in the form of white papers, articles and blogs, using social media and pushing paid social/geofenced campaigns, and generally approaching pre-positioning and overall brand building using a highly targeted, omni-channel approach.

My team handled internal communications and supports public relations, as well...I managed editorial and advertising relationships with energy trade publications and local media outlets as well as produced all regional internal communications on our various digital and physical platforms.

Over the 8+ years I was with Burns & McDonnell I had the good fortune to do what I do for them (branding, winning work, building culture, making it a “best place to work for all,” etc.), plus help develop and promote several newer business lines and some geographic expansion efforts.

One of my proudest accomplishments? The day my former boss was named CEO and several of my friends took on corporate-level leadership roles. I'm happy to say and proud of the fact I helped in their efforts to secure those positions.
