Who I Am
I like documentaries and dogs, boots and Birkenstocks, literature, comics and Criterion Collection films, country music and hip hop (and classical, to boot). And I like boots.
I also like the theater, from drama (Aeschylus, Shakespeare, Eugene O’Neill and my favorite, August Wilson) to musicals (I saw Annie when I was eight, have seen pretty much all of the majors and I’ve seen Rent seven times [and met the original cast]). I have a diversity of interests, as well as diversity of people in my life, and that is what energizes me.
I swim, kayak, hike, ski, paint, draw, sculpt and pretty much explore new things whenever I can.
I’m a decent carpenter, electrician and plumber, and can figure out how to fix most things (given enough time, books, the Interwebs and YouTube). That's true at work as well as around the house.
My Favorite Quotation
My favorite quote is from Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, a take on Shakespeare’s Hamlet as told by the two most insignificant characters in the play.
Guildenstern tells Rosencrantz (or was it the other way ‘round?), “What a fine persecution - to be kept intrigued without ever quite being enlightened....”
If we knew all the answers, how boring would that be? It’s the questions and exploring their answers – the journey itself – that makes life truly enjoyable.
